Close to the End?
Adult Ed may or may not be ending at LAUSD. As of March 13, 2012, the division had not been funded for the next school year, 2012-2013. But the Union, UTLA, is working hard to come to some kind of agreement with the LAUSD Board for some funding for the upcoming year. More as it develops!

Commitment
Dear Students, I am very happy to have met all of you that are in my classes. I intend to give you the best semester possible -- with lots of fun and laughter and learning. I just ask that you show up -- prepared for class. Bring your notebook and pen and pencil and books. Bring a dictionary and a bottle of water, if you need it. But more importantly, bring your intention to participate in class, to study and to learn. You will be happy you did! I can guarantee that with a belief in success, you will be half-way there before you are out of the gate! Ask yourself, "What do I want to get out of this class?" "What am I willing to put in?" You will have your answer regarding how the semester will go for you. I am committing to giving you the best classes possible -- I am asking for your best effort. Together we can build a house for the knowledge you want to store, possess, use and from which you will benefit. Are you with me? Together, we can do it. I'm committing 1000 percent. Will you?

A Great Principal
I am very lucky to work at West Valley Occupational Center for a wonderful principal, Richard Wormus. Mr. Wormus, in the short time he has been at West Valley, has transformed the school. We have had a campus beautification program, resulting in flowers, and seating areas which have made the campus a friendlier place. In addition, Mr. Wormus has seen to it that all rooms have keys, that campus lighting and safety have been increased and that teachers always have someone to walk them to their cars at night. Since he has been at WVOC, we have increased the number and scope of special events, including the annual Job Fair, Health Fair and International Day. There are more classes than ever before and more students coming to the school. The ESL Department is expanding by reputation alone. Mr. Wormus has truly turned the school into a community where staff and faculty want to be involved. Lest you think I have ulterior motives for writing this, I am but a part-time teacher; I work full-time for my husband, take care of my elderly parents and am involved in several other projects. I chose to highlight Mr. Wormus because he truly deserves recognition and acknowledgement as an outstanding principal and leader in Adult Education in the San Fernando Valley. You're invited to come take classes and experience West Valley Occupational Center for yourself!

First Day of School
Today is the first day of school. I am thinking about my new students, thinking that my intention is that they have a great school year, that they have the time to study and the motivation to do so. And so it begins again...

Back to School
Welcome Back! This is going to be a great school year! My intention is for my students to develop a new enthusiasm in studying English, a new pride in themselves and a new level of motivation to get there.
As most teachers of traditional year (September - June) schools, I have been busy preparing for the new school year. I have been researching new games, techniques and technologies to inspire and captivate students. I want this year to be fun and productive for all my students!
See you in class!
